Outdoor Flake System
Double-broadcast flake built for Texas sun and rain. Our outdoor flake system goes down over a moisture vapor barrier, takes two full broadcasts of flake, and is sealed under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat with non-slip texture.
Where our outdoor flake coatings work best
- Covered patios and back porches
- Open patios and outdoor living areas
- Front porches, entry steps and stoops
- Walkways and garden paths
- Outdoor kitchens and grill areas
- Breezeways and carports
- Screened porches
- Concrete dog runs and side yards
- Shop aprons and garage approaches
Good to know
- Two days on site. The vapor barrier and the second broadcast need the time.
- Outdoor slabs are shot blasted to CSP 3 or heavier, because exterior concrete is denser and dirtier than a garage slab.
- Every outdoor slab gets moisture checks before we price it. Ground moisture pushing up through the slab is what lifts an exterior coating.
Every floor is quoted after we inspect the slab. See what a floor typically costs or read the warranty details.
Pick your flake blend
Pick a blend and the close-up changes with it, so you can see the actual chips. These are the Torginol blends our Houston supplier stocks. Swatches are the manufacturer’s own; we bring physical chips to your quote, because a sample in your own light is the only way to be sure.

Looking for something else? Browse the full Torginol blend catalog and their room visualiser, then tell us the blend name. We will confirm availability and what it does to your price before you commit to it.
How an outdoor flake floor is built
Six layers over two days. Outdoor slabs get a moisture vapor barrier and a second flake broadcast, because sun, rain and ground moisture are the things that kill an exterior coating.
| Layer | Material | Film build | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear finish coat | Polyaspartic clear + non-skid | 4–8 mils WFT | 125–250 sq ft/gal |
| Second broadcast | 1/4" color flake | To rejection | — |
| Clear intermediate | Polyaspartic clear | 4–8 mils WFT | 125–250 sq ft/gal |
| First broadcast | 1/4" color flake | To rejection | — |
| Moisture vapor barrier | Rapid-cure MVB primer | 12–15 mils WFT (11–13.5 DFT) | — |
| Surface prep | Shot blast | CSP 3 minimum | — |
Two days on site. The vapor barrier is what keeps an outdoor slab from pushing moisture up through the coating; we map the slab with a moisture meter per ASTM F2659, check it per ASTM D4263 and measure the emission rate per ASTM F1869 before we price the job. Film build is stated as wet film thickness and coverage rate, which is how it is verified in the field on concrete. Figures are the published values for the products we specify.

Outdoor flake coating questions
Why not use regular epoxy on a patio?
Standard epoxy yellows and chalks in direct sunlight. Our outdoor system uses a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat, which holds its color in Texas sun, over a moisture vapor barrier and two broadcasts of flake.
How long does an outdoor flake coating take?
An outdoor area of about 400 sq ft takes two days. The vapor barrier and the second flake broadcast are what need the extra day.
Is an outdoor flake coating slippery when wet?
The double broadcast gives the surface texture, and the finish coat carries a non-skid additive, so it is built for wet conditions.
What happens if it rains on install day?
We need a dry slab and a dry forecast for the install window. If rain moves in, we reschedule rather than coat a wet slab, because trapped moisture is what lifts an exterior coating.
Do you test outdoor slabs for moisture?
Yes. Every outdoor slab gets three moisture checks before we price it: an electronic meter scan per ASTM F2659 to find the wettest areas, a plastic sheet test per ASTM D4263, and calcium chloride testing per ASTM F1869.
What warranty comes with an outdoor flake coating?
Exterior polyaspartic systems carry a 10-year prorated warranty, as long as the care guide is followed. See the warranty page for the details.
Built for Texas sun and rain

Chemical resistance
Oil, gasoline, brake fluid and road salt wipe up instead of soaking in.

UV stable — does not yellow
Polyaspartic topcoats hold their color in Texas sun, where epoxy would amber.

Chip resistance
Bonded into a mechanically profiled slab, so a dropped wrench does not pop it loose.

Scratch resistance
A hard clear topcoat takes foot traffic, pets and rolling tool chests.
